One of the interesting parts of my job as an illustrator is that I’m learning something new about the subjects and topics I’m drawing. Did you know that I learned everything about heat pumps and insulation glass that way? And for illustrating surface patterns I’m also coming across new, unknown topics. I recently had that with the word kumquat.

I really enjoy seeing what’s going on in surface pattern design trends. Surface pattern trends are an essential part of my work as a designer. And while I always try to illustrate patterns that are as ‘timeless’ as possible, it’s nice to follow surface pattern trends too. One project I would like to work on is a world animal atlas. I am a big animal lover and I enjoy looking at illustrations full of animals. So I made an example of an animal atlas illustration to show how I envision it.
